In light of the fact that the idea of desert is still present in the actual cultural, social, political and academic context, I proposed myself to investigate the concept in order to find new ways to define it in a positive way. By tracing the origins of the philosophical debate the apparent contrast between desert and equality emerges as one of the fundamental problems. This is examined in depth looking at the proposals of authors who tried to define desert as a possible principle of justice. In virtue of its relational nature I will analyse the thesis of relational egalitarianism as a possible way to define desert in a new way. Finally, it will appear necessary to trace the roots of desert and the reasons of his necessity for our social system, in particular by underlying the procedures through which it has to be developed in the future in order to be compatible with the idea of equality and of justice.

Abstract
In light of the fact that the idea of desert is still present in the actual cultural, social, political and academic context, I proposed myself to investigate the concept in order to find new ways to define it in a positive way. By tracing the origins of the philosophical debate the apparent contrast between desert and equality emerges as one of the fundamental problems. This is examined in depth looking at the proposals of authors who tried to define desert as a possible principle of justice. In virtue of its relational nature I will analyse the thesis of relational egalitarianism as a possible way to define desert in a new way. Finally, it will appear necessary to trace the roots of desert and the reasons of his necessity for our social system, in particular by underlying the procedures through which it has to be developed in the future in order to be compatible with the idea of equality and of justice.È consentito all'utente scaricare e condividere i documenti disponibili a testo pieno in UNITESI UNIPV nel rispetto della licenza Creative Commons del tipo CC BY NC ND.
