This two part study investigates the evolution of European Public Administration and the structural changes within the European Commission itself. It begins with a discussion on the interaction of national, EU, and transnational actors distinguishing three clusters of scholarship; rise of the European Administrative Space (EAS) zooming in on the national-EU dynamic, Network scholarship and the influence of global actors. The second part is a piece of a longitudinal study in sketching the internal structure of the European Commission. Taking Directorate-General Competition and Agriculture as specimens, I show why and how there have been organizational, structural and administrative shifts in the Commission itself. Given form by extensive archival research concerning the internal structure from 1958 till today, and complimented by oral histories, minutes of commission meetings, reports, and treaty documents, the project aims to compare the shifts in these DGs to graph the change in the administrative architecture of the Commission itself.
