The following thesis aims at understanding how key performance indicators can be used, in the form of a lean management tool, to improve shop floor management. In order to do so, the fist part of the thesis will explore the technical background of KPIs as well as their usage on visualization boards through various management tools such as balanced scorecards. The second part on the other hand will describe practical implementations of KPIs by analyzing different case studies conducted with respect to topics relevant to modern industrial manufacturing, such as the sustainability of the production process or the implementation of lean warehousing.
