IL PROCESSO EVOLUTIVO DELLO STORYTELLING: DALLA DISTOPIA DI MATRIX ALLA FRAMMENTAZIONE DELL’IDENTITÀ NELL’ERA DEL METAVERSO

This paper aims to illustrate the importance of storytelling practice and the way it adapts to the digital scenario with its consequent evolutions. The narrative practice progresses, intensifying its functions through new methods of approach, satisfying the needs of immersivity and involvement through modern and innovative tools. It proposes an analysis of narrative dystopia that sees the cinematographic saga The Matrix as object of study, which is an allegorical representation of the modern scenario marked by the birth of the Metaverse. This analysis brings up positive and negative aspects of an existence defined by the presence of tools with which to escape from the daily routine, and it shows an alternative reality in which you can talk about yourself and enjoy other stories in a completely new way. This means that the concept of identity takes on an indefinite role, and it depends on the context of reference and produces a dilemma that could approach the famous "being or not being". Traditional narrative models are being disrupted and there is a growing need to build a multiverse of probability that can represent, through new technology, the best solution to be always satisfied. The Metaverse seems to be the answer that best meets these needs, and thanks to that we can witness the true revolution, that involves narrative, identity and society.

Il presente elaborato ha lo scopo di illustrare l’importanza della pratica dello Storytelling e il modo che ha di adattarsi allo scenario digitale con le sue conseguenti evoluzioni. La pratica narrativa progredisce, intensificando le sue funzioni attraverso nuovi metodi di approccio con i suoi destinatari, soddisfando le esigenze di immersività e coinvolgimento tramite strumenti moderni e innovativi. Si propone un’analisi della distopia narrativa che vede come oggetto di studio la saga cinematografica The Matrix, rappresentazione allegorica dello scenario moderno contraddistinto dalla nascita del Metaverso. Questa indagine porta a galla lati positivi e negativi di un’esistenza definita dalla presenza di strumenti con cui evadere dal quotidiano che illustra una realtà alternativa in cui poter raccontare di sé e godere delle storie altrui in modo del tutto nuovo. Ciò fa sì che il concetto di identità assuma un ruolo indefinito e camaleontico a seconda del contesto di riferimento e produca un dilemma che potrebbe accostarsi al famoso “essere o non essere”. Si scardinano i modelli narrativi tradizionali e cresce il bisogno di costruire un multiverso di probabilità che possano rappresentare, attraverso la new technology, la soluzione migliore per poter essere sempre soddisfatti. Il Metaverso sembra essere la soluzione che meglio risponde a queste esigenze, e con esso si assiste alla vera rivoluzione, narrativa, identitaria e sociale.
