The thesis proposes a research on the awareness of people with disabilities in the Kinondoni district of Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania. The research was born from the project of the Italian NGO Comsol to understand the awareness of the rights of disabled people in rural areas of the country and to understand this phenomenon, the volunteers of the Civil Peace Corps have administered questionnaires to more than 200 people in four neighborhoods of Kinondoni. Before proceeding with the questionnaires, the volunteers have requested permission from the local government to distribute questionnaires on censorship topics, such as rights and duties, obtaining the guarantee of safety of being able to walk in the requested areas with government representatives. Subsequently, it was necessary to have a vision of the legislation and legal texts that provide for the protection of the rights of this segment of the population. To do this, other subjects have intervened such as the social workers of the Antonia Verna rehabilitation center - kila siku, a reference body for physiotherapy and medicine in the Kawe district. The center was born from the collaboration between COMSOL and the nuns of Ivrea. Thanks to the contribution both in the interpretation of the laws and in the formulation of the questionnaires, the volunteers found support and solidarity. The questionnaires are in Swahili and there are 2, one for adults and one for children with disabilities. Both also take into account the subjects who care for these people such as parents and carers. In addition to the questionnaires, material for awareness of rights was distributed. The questionnaires are made up of open questions and multiple choice questions with a funnel structure and were administered in just over three months and once this phase was concluded, together with the volunteers of the Civil Peace Corps I was able to give my contribution in the collection and analysis of the data. The data were entered into the KoboToolbox research tool, through which we obtained statistical values, graphs and a general view of the responses. Once collected, we were able to clean and reorder the data based on our research questions. In particular, the macro themes of the questionnaires concern education, work, access to health services, beliefs and stigma, social perception and specifically one's awareness of social and political rights. Once the results were collected, it turned out that awareness of one's rights is still low and that many of the interviewees did not even know their human rights. Through these results, the subjects involved were able to draft a report to present to the government to have a sample of the condition of the rights of people with disabilities. The report was delivered and thanks to this research, greater awareness was created both by the people involved and by the government so that it can make public decisions taking into account the condition of these people. The conclusions of this project are aimed at the future through the arrival of new volunteers in April 2024 who will continue with this awareness project in other areas of Dar Es Salaam to provide a greater vision of the phenomenon.
