The work presented here is a phenomenological investigation into the experience of intellectual developmental disorders for adolescents’ caregivers . Various theoretical models are analysed here, such as the medical model, the social model, the moral model, the capability approach, and the diversity model. These models provide various interpretations of the concept of disability, and consequently, their adoption has diverse implications for the lives of the individuals involved. Reflections are then made on the role of psychologists in relation to disability through the analysis of APA guidelines. The experimental part, conducted in a mountainous context, employs the phenomenological analysis method. It focuses on daily experiences, perceptions of significant events, and the strategies adopted by caregivers to address challenges related to supporting individuals with intellectual developmental disorders. Participants underwent semi-structured interviews, which were subsequently analyzed using the IPA method. Eight macro areas emerged from the texts, aiming to represent common themes among the interviewed individuals. One thing that clearly emerges from the study is that disability, in this case cognitive disability, is a phenomenon so multifaceted that it is difficult to channel it into a comprehensive list of parameters.
Il lavoro qua proposto è un‘indagine fenomenologica sull’esperienza del disturbo dello sviluppo intellettivo per care giver di adolescenti. Vengono presi in analisi i modelli teorici più frequenti. Il modello medico, quello sociale, quello morale, il capability approach e il diversity model. Essi forniscono diverse interpretazioni del concetto di disabilità e di conseguenza hanno impatti diversi sull’esistenza delle persone coinvolte. Si riflette poi sul ruolo della psicologa/dello psicologo in relazione alla disabilità tramite l’analisi delle linee guida APA. La parte sperimentale, svoltasi in un contesto montano, si avvale del metodo di analisi fenomenologica. Essa si concentra sulle esperienze quotidiane, le percezioni degli eventi salienti e le strategie adottate dalle care giver per affrontare le sfide legate al supporto di individui con disturbi dello sviluppo intellettivo. Alle partecipanti sono state sottoposte delle interviste semi strutturate successivamente analizzate con il metodo IPA. Dai testi sono emerse 8 macro aree che hanno lo scopo di rappresentare le tematiche comuni alle persone intervistate. Una cosa che emerge chiaramente dallo studio è che la disabilità, in questo caso quella cognitiva, è un fenomeno talmente sfaccettato che è difficile trovare situazioni veramente simili fra loro.
