This study examines how Nazi Germany was portrayed in the pages of the Corriere della Sera between 1933 and 1936, focusing in particular on the articles written by its Berlin correspondent, Cristano Ridomi, and on his correspondence with the editor-in-chief, Aldo Borelli. Through an analysis of the historical context, the evolution of the newspaper from the liberal era to its gradual fascistization, and the editorial dynamics imposed by the regime, the research reconstructs the newspaper’s role as a tool for shaping public opinion. The study also explores how the Corriere’s representation of the Third Reich changed over time, highlighting the delicate balance between adherence to political directives, diplomatic caution, and critical observation. A comparative look at other correspondents and contemporary newspapers further clarifies the alignment of the Italian press with Fascist foreign policy. The analysis of Ridomi’s main articles reveals a constant tension between rhetorical participation and ironic detachment, offering insight into both the mechanisms of propaganda and the fissures within an information system constrained by strict political controls. Overall, the work contributes to understanding the role of foreign correspondents in the 1930s, caught between professional duty, political pressures, and the need to interpret a rapidly evolving regime.
