Differenze generazionali negli atteggiamenti linguistici verso il Piemontese

This thesis analyzes linguistic attitudes and linguistic identities in the context of bilingualism between Italian and Piedmontese among participants residing in a municipality in the province of Asti. The study aims to identify how speakers identify themselves and the languages they speak and are surround by, with particular attention to any generational differences. This qualitative survey is based on semi-structured interviews conducted either in Italian or Piedmontese, in which the experiences and opinions of the participants are explored in order to reconstruct linguistic repertoires, practices, and attitudes. Twenty participants were selected and divided into five balanced age groups. The thesis contributes to the reflection on the status of regional languages in Italy and on the role of linguistic attitudes in the phenomena of linguistic survival or decline, highlighting the relationship between social perception and authority.

La presente tesi analizza gli atteggiamenti linguistici e le identità linguistiche nel contesto di bilinguismo tra italiano e piemontese da parte di partecipanti residenti in un comune nella provincia di Asti. L'elaborato si pone l'obiettivo di individuare come i parlanti identificano sé stessi e le lingue che parlano e li circondano, con particolare attenzione a eventuali differenze generazionali. L'indagine, di natura qualitativa, si basa su interviste semi strutturate condotte in italiano o in piemontese, in cui vengono esplorate le esperienze e opinioni dei partecipanti per ricostruire i repertori linguistici, le pratiche d'uso e gli atteggiamenti linguistici. Sono stati selezionati venti partecipanti, successivamente suddivisi in cinque fasce d'età equilibrate. La tesi contribuisce alla riflessione sullo status delle lingue regionali in Italia e sul ruolo degli atteggiamenti linguistici nei fenomeni di sopravvivenza o declino linguistico, evidenziando il rapporto tra la percezione sociale e l'autorità.
