This thesis presents a comparative study of general extenders (GEs) in spontaneous spoken Italian and Spanish, exploring their syntactic, pragmatic, and cognitive dimensions. The research is based on a qualitative micro-corpus collected through 10 semi-structured interviews (5 Italian and 5 Spanish native speakers), complemented by a corpus-assisted analysis carried out on the reference corpora KIParla for Italian and CORPES XXI for Spanish. Each occurrence was analyzed through a detailed annotation scheme designed to capture the relationship between form, structure, and pragmatic function of GEs across the two linguistic systems. This qualitative study contributes to the understanding of the cross-linguistic use of general extenders in spontaneous speech, offering an original contribution to the still underexplored comparison between Italian and Spanish on this pragmatic phenomenon.
