This thesis project focuses on the synthesis of zinc, magnesium and mixed zinc-magnesium ferrites and their functionalization with the γ-PGA polymer. The resulting materials have been extensively characterized to analyze their structural, microstructural, and morphological properties. Several experimental techniques have been employed, such as X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), infrared spectroscopy, Raman and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). Subsequently, the antibacterial properties of the synthesized systems were evaluated at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology of the University of Pavia. The main objective of the study is the development of biocompatible materials for biomedical applications, particularly as antibacterial devices or as systems for magnetofluidic hyperthermia.
