The main goal of this thesis is the development and validation of the ATLAS dataflow system for the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), together with the study of Trigger-Level Analysis (TLA) workflows in the upgraded system. Starting from a general description of the LHC and of the ATLAS experiment, the main characteristics and requirements of its trigger and data acquisition system will be presented, both in its Run-3 version and in view of the planned HL-LHC upgrades. The work carried out within the ATLAS dataflow group will then be illustrated, from the development of a compatibility interface allowing upgraded readout systems to be tested with the Run-3 dataflow to the deployment of containerized dataflow applications, validated in a full-scale test at the Run-4 target event rate. Finally, the impact of the TLA workflows planned for the HL-LHC on the dataflow system will be assessed with dedicated tests on the Run-3 infrastructure, and a truth-level study of a light ′ boson produced with initial-state radiation will show the sensitivity that TLA could provide during Run 4.

Abstract

Upgrade of the ATLAS Dataflow for the High-Luminosity LHC and Trigger-Level Analysis Workflows
