Stabilometry is the study of postural control based on the centre of pressure (CoP) measured by a force plate; however, this does not directly describe the movement of the body. Markerless motion capture systems, which utilise pose estimation models, enable the reconstruction of the centre of mass (CoM), but lose accuracy when dealing with small oscillations in the standing posture, on the order of millimetres. This thesis compared two markerless systems for estimating the CoP from the CoM, using an inverse pendulum model, with the force plate serving as a reference. The two systems are a multi-camera system, comprising four synchronised cameras, the YOLO26x model and a geometric body model (YOLO), and a single- camera system based on SAM 3D Body (SAM). Sixteen healthy volunteers performed five 30-second trials (Eyes Open, Eyes Closed, Tandem, One Foot and stability limits test) and 54 valid sessions out of 80 were analysed. The CoM was filtered using a low-pass filter at 1.0 Hz for YOLO and 1.1 Hz for SAM. The comparison of the estimated CoP with that of the platform was carried out using posturographic indices, correlation, trajectory RMSE and Bland-Altman analysis. Correlations are mostly between 0.7 and 0.9, and the median percentage error on the indices remains within 30 per cent in 27 of the 30 index-exercise combinations for YOLO and in 23 for SAM. Agreement is better where oscillation is greater: on the mediolateral axis in the stability limits test, the correlation is almost perfect (0.999). In the standing position, the percentage errors are high even when the absolute difference is around 1 mm, and for SAM, on the anteroposterior axis in the stability limits test, the estimate deviates significantly from the platform (median correlation 0.16). Estimating the CoP from video is therefore feasible and reproduces the platform’s behaviour, but at present it cannot replace the platform for the precise quantification of indices. A larger sample, longer trials and the introduction of scale and depth constraints for SAM are required.
