The purpose of this dissertation is to look for causes and consequences of economic inequality. Through a literature review, which is based solely on empirical journal articles, the paper found globalisation, financial market imperfection and political economy argument as causes of inequality. At the same time, the paper found the drop in population health, the intensification of violent crime and the reduction of the rate of economic growth as consequences of inequality. Lastly, the dissertation shows that there is a trade-off in terms of implications between society and firms. While policymakers should try to combat the ever-rising inequality, economic inequality benefits Business To Consumer firms.
