Tra verità e simulacro: Sciascia lettore e interprete di Pirandello.

This thesis examines the relationship between Leonardo Sciascia and Luigi Pirandello through the category of the tension between truth and simulacrum, structuring the analysis into four chapters. The first chapter reconstructs Pirandello’s image in Sciascia’s critical essays, analyzing his interpretations and highlighting the thematic cores that most significantly shape his reading. The second chapter explores the theme of jealousy and the crime of honor, comparing Pirandello’s and Sciascia’s texts in order to identify continuities and divergences in their representation of judicial truth and the social construction of guilt. The third chapter examines Todo modo as a site of indirect reworking of the “Pirandello of De Benedetti,” showing how twentieth-century critical mediation contributes to the requalification of Pirandellian motifs in Sciascia’s work. Finally, the fourth chapter addresses the theater of memory in Sciascia, focusing on the themes of simulacrum, imposture, and the political dimension of representation. Overall, the thesis demonstrates that Sciascia’s reading of Pirandello takes the form of a critical dialogue and an ideological rewriting, in which reflection on the mask and ambiguity intertwines with a rational pursuit of truth, thereby redefining Pirandello’s legacy in the second half of the twentieth century.

Il seguente elaborato di tesi esamina il rapporto tra Leonardo Sciascia e Luigi Pirandello attraverso la categoria della tensione tra verità e simulacro, articolando l’analisi in quattro capitoli. Il primo capitolo ricostruisce l’immagine di Pirandello nella riflessione saggistica di Sciascia, esaminandone le letture critiche e mettendo in luce i nuclei tematici che maggiormente ne orientano l’interpretazione. Il secondo capitolo approfondisce il tema della gelosia e del delitto d’onore, mettendo a confronto testi pirandelliani e sciasciani per evidenziare continuità e scarti nella rappresentazione della verità giudiziaria e della costruzione sociale della colpa. Il terzo capitolo analizza "Todo modo" come luogo di rielaborazione indiretta del “Pirandello di De Benedetti”, mostrando come la mediazione critica novecentesca contribuisca alla riqualificazione dei motivi pirandelliani nell’opera sciasciana. Il quarto capitolo, infine, affronta il teatro della memoria in Sciascia, concentrandosi sui temi del simulacro, dell’impostura e della dimensione politica della rappresentazione. Nel complesso, la tesi dimostra che la lettura sciasciana di Pirandello si configura come dialogo critico e riscrittura ideologica, in cui la riflessione sulla maschera e sull’ambiguità si intreccia con un’esigenza razionale di verità, ridefinendo l’eredità pirandelliana nel secondo Novecento.
